Frozen Buttercream icing is a great way to put cartoon like pictures on your cake. When making a transfer, you will need to use a special icing recipe. The reason for this is that the icing must be able to freeze in order to place it on the cake. Below you will find the recipe I use and I will post directions on making a transfer later this week.
Ingredients:

1 cup Crisco

3 sticks butter

2 Tsp flavoring

2 pounds powdered sugar

Directions:

1. Cream the butter and shortening well.

2. Add the flavoring.

3. Slowly add the powdered sugar.

4. Mix on 8-10 speed for approximately 5-10 minutes for a smooth consistency. Add more sugar if not stiff enough.

    Hi,
I'm reading this from Ireland (and it sounds a fantastic way to make an impressive cake!) but I have no idea what Crisco is - is that a brand name? Any idea what the generic product would be?
    Many thanks,
    Elaine.

Yes, crisco is a brand name. It is usually called crisco shortening. You can look at it at www.crisco.com

Hi Elaine, The Anonymous comment is correct. I actually responded to your comment awhile ago and I'm a little upset it never posted (not your fault of course). Anyway, it is also known as vegetable shortening.

    What is the flavoring

  5. Kim @ PCD Says:

The flavoring is any extract of your choosing. The most common are vanilla, butter, and almond. Sorry for the delay in response.

How would this hold up to being placed on the side of a cake? The image would be relatively small, of course. Do you think it would "slide" when it warmed up?
